Delhi: Diwali celebrations with lots of crackers have hung a thick cloud of exhaust fumes over Delhi and many parts of Uttar Pradesh. As the most widely celebrated festival of India this calls for huge celebration along with homemade sweets, new dresses and firecrackers.

Out of all, the relentless bursting of crackers was self-evident to give rise to heavy smog in the cloud since morning. Smoke in the air has choked the air and also the visibility.

According to the National Air Quality Index, air in severe category affects healthy people and earnestly affects the health of many.

These particles can cause severe respiratory diseases if subjected to elongated exposure. The particulate matter in the air measures the amount of pollution present in the air, which above 300 is regarded as hazardous. The particulate matter in the air for different cities was recorded as: 500 particulate matter from safdarjung, 463 particulate matter from Harayana and Faridabad, 658 around Talkatora in lucknow. The monitoring agencies have recommended people to keep away from any physical activity when the Air Quality Index is rated hazardous.

A report released by UNICEF on Monday said, "almost one in seven children worldwide live in areas with high levels of outdoor air pollution, mostly in South Asia, and their growing bodies are most vulnerable to damage. DPCC, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and SAFAR are likely to release air pollution analysis for Diwali either today or on Tuesday."
