New Delhi: On Friday, the Congress party changed its profile picture of their social media platforms with the photo of Mahatma Gandhi. The move comes amid a raging controversy over Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders remarks in support of Nathuram Godse. Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at the BJP over its leaders making controversial remarks on Godse, saying the BJP and the RSS are not "God-ke Lovers" but "God-se Lovers".

"I finally got it. The BJP and the RSS... Are not God-Ke Lovers. They are God-Se Lovers," the Congress chief said in a tweet.

Recently, some BJP leaders including Anil Saumitra, Nalinkumar Kateel and Pragya Singh Thakur sparked a row after they made a comment hailing Nathuram Godse and demeaning Mahatma Gandhi. On Firday, Saumitra said that Mahatma Gandhi is the father of Pakistan, adding that crores of people were born in India like him. The BJP earlier today suspended Saumitra and also asked him to submit a reply within seven days over his post.

On Thursday, Pragya Thakur had called Godse, the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, a “deshbhakt” (patriot).

"Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt, is a deshbhakt and will remain a deshbhakt'. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within. Such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections," she said. She was responding to Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan's remarks that Godse was "Independent India's first Hindu terrorist". However, Thakur later tendered an apology.

PM Modi also slammed the BJP Bhopal candidate for her remarks and said that “he would never forgive her.”

BJP MP from Karnataka, Kateel also stoked a similar controversy after he compared Godse with former PM Rajiv Gandhi. "Godse killed one, Kasab killed 72, Rajiv Gandhi killed 17,000. You judge who is crueller in this??" Kateel had tweeted.
