West Indies left-arm bowler Obed McCoy has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2021 due to a right leg injury, the team said on Thursday. Former captain Jason Holder has been added in as a substitute for the injured pacer. On Wednesday, October 27, the ICC technical committee granted the West Indies' request for a replacement.

The 24-year-old sustained the injury in Saturday's six-wicket loss to England in Sharjah, and then missed Tuesday's eight-wicket loss over South Africa. Holder, who has 199 West Indies caps to his career, including 27 T20I matches, was among the West Indies team's travelling assets in the UAE. The 29-year-old, who last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates, will be ready for the Bangladesh match.

Roger Harper, the chief selector for the West Indies stated, ''Jason Holder has been in the UAE for a while and will fit in with the rest of the team. We know he'll be keen to seize the opportunity since he is a seasoned and smart cricketer.'' West Indies have made a poor start to their T20 World Cup campaign, losing their opening two games to England and South Africa.
