Panaji: After sad demise of CM Manohar Parrikar, the power struggle between the ruling BJP and the Congress is already underway. Congress again wrote to the state governor, staking claim to form the government in the Goa. 

The Congress wrote a letter to Goa Governor Mridula Sinha on Sunday and claimed that the BJP had no support of its allies and that the opposition party should be invited to form the government. Condoling Parrikar’s demise, Congress told the governor in the letter, “the unfortunate development calls for the immediate action on your part for smooth transition and transfer of power.”

The congress also wrote,“The coalition partners had allied with BJP on condition that the government is headed by Manohar Parrikar who was the then Defence Minister of India. The BJP has no allies as of now.”

It further said, “The Congress being the single largest party, the leader of the Congress Legislature Party is entitled to be invited to form the best government.” It was signed by by leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar and Goa State President Girish Chodankar.

As per reports, it was the second letter sent by Congress to stake a claim in the last 48 hours. 

 Congress also mentioned the break-up of the current party position in the Goa Assembly in the letter-  Congress - 14; BJP - 11; Goa Forward Party - 3; MGP - 3; Independents - 3; NCP - 1 and Speaker – 1. 

Four-time Goa CM and former Defence Minister, Parrikar passed away after a prolonged battle with a pancreatic ailment. He was 63.
