New Delhi: Just days after snubbing the joint Bimstec military drill which being conducted in Pune, Nepal is ready to take part in a 12-day long military exercise with second arch rival of country China. This exercise will be held later this month.

In a not much appreciated move by India, Notably, China and Nepal held joint military exercise for the first time last year, raising concerns in India over the mounting security cooperation between its two neighbors.

According reports, Nepal Army spokesperson Brig Gen Gokul Bhandaree stated on Monday that the military exercise with China is scheduled to take place from September 17 to 28 in Chengdu in China. This exercise is called Sagarmatha Friendship-2.He said that the main focal point of the exercise will be on the counter-terror operations.

Considerably, the second such Nepal-China military exercise will be held at a time when Nepal government has ordered its military to snubbing from the first-ever joint military exercise by the Bimstec countries.

Nepal is not entirely on board with India’s attempts to support security and defense cooperation within Bimstec nations.

The declaration on the subject of Nepal’s non-participation in the Bimstec exercise was made by Prime Minister K P Oli's adviser, Kundan Aryal last week. The development comes only a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had welcomed the "multi-national military field training exercise" at the Bimstec summit 2018 that was conducted in Kathmandu last month.
