Keonjhar: A shocking incident is coming to light from the Keonjhar district of Odisha. A man threw his wife out of the house along with 10 children saying she had become unclean as she had undergone a sterilization procedure. Here every year, after giving birth to a child, the tired woman underwent sterilization at the community health center. Her husband, who works as a daily wage laborer, married the woman 11 years ago after the death of his first wife. Janaki had given birth to 11 children in 11 years.

Janaki Dehuri, who is tired of giving birth to a child every year after her marriage to Rabi Dehuri, a Bhuiyan Adivasi from Dimiriya village in Salikena gram panchayat of Telkoi block of Odisha's Keonjhar district, underwent sterilization at Telkoi community health center on Tuesday. Rabi, a daily wage laborer, married Janaki 11 years ago after the death of his first wife. Janaki had given birth to 11 children in 11 years, including a dead child.

After marriage, Janaki continued to give birth to a child every year, which worsened her health. At the behest of local ASHA worker Bijaylaxmi Biswal, Janaki agreed to undergo sterilization at the family planning camp. But as soon as she returned home, Rabi, in a fit of rage, accused her of being impure and drove her out of the house. The ASHA worker said, "He told his wife that she has brought a bad name to the family and has become indecent to perform 'Shraadh' for the ancestors."
