Another big step of Modi Government;  planning to merge Daman & Diu

Daman:   After the withdrawal of special state status from Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi government of the Center is now going to take another big step. The government is considering forming a union territory by merging 2 union territories Daman and Diu and Dadar and Nagar Haveli. Union Minister, Arjun Meghwal has said in the lower house of Parliament on Friday that a bill in this regard will be introduced in Parliament next week.

Arjun Meghwal said that the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (Merger of Union Territories) Bill 2019 is part of the proposed government business for the next week. Officials say that the merger of these two union territories located on the west coast near Gujarat will lead to good administration and curb duplication of works. One in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, while 2nd comes under Daman and Diu.

Located at a distance of just 35 kilometers, both union territories have their own secretariats and separate budgets. With the merger of Dadra and Nagar Haveli into one district and Daman Diu with two districts, administrative expenses are also expected to decrease. The restructured Union Territory is expected to be named 'Dadra Nagar Haveli', and 'Daman and Diu' is made its headquarters.
