Berlin: After a meeting at the US Ramstein base in Germany, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has expressed hope that the question of re-exporting German tanks to Ukraine will be cleared.

When asked whether Berlin would approve re-exports on Thursday night, he replied to the ARD television channel, "It will become more clear in the next few hours or tomorrow."

"The next few days will undoubtedly see some sort of decision. I am unable to reveal the specific choice to be made at this time."

On January 20, Western defense ministers will meet at the US Ramstein base in Germany to discuss the transfer of additional military aid to Kyiv, particularly Leopard tanks.

The country's recently appointed Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will serve as the head of the German delegation.

The German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung reported on Wednesday, citing its own sources, that Chancellor Olaf Scholz told US President Joe Biden by phone that Berlin would agree to allow Kyiv to receive supplies of Leopard-2 tanks only if When Washington will also send Abrams tanks to Ukraine.

The newspaper claims that during the call, the US President did not explicitly say that Washington would send tanks to Kyiv.
