Parents of 9-year-old Dalit girl demand HC-monitored probe in case

New Delhi: In the alleged rape of a 9-year-old Dalit girl in the national capital, her parents have moved the Delhi High Court demanding setting up of a special task force (SIT) to investigate the incident under court supervision. Meanwhile, the High Court in its order has said that the investigation SIT is being monitored by senior crime branch officials. Two people have already confessed to their crimes. We have been directed to file a status report of the inquiry.

Earlier, while filing the petition, the deceased's parents said they did not trust the investigation being conducted by the crime branch. The investigation into the incident was recently transferred to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. Eyewitnesses and parents of the girl have also been requested to provide proper protection in connection with the case. The petition also urges a judicial inquiry into administrative malpractices.

The Dalit girl died under mysterious circumstances in an old Nangal village in southwest Delhi on August 1 and her parents had alleged that her daughter was murdered after raping her. Police have arrested at least 4 people in the case. The family members alleged that the accused had tried to forcibly cremate the body of the girl after her death.
