BHOPAL: In addition to violent protests by hundreds of young people in Madhya Pradesh, a political brawl over the Centre's 'Agnipath' scheme has erupted.

The 'Agniveers' (beneficiaries of the Agnipath initiative) will be given "special" priority in the state police services, said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan's apparent support was similar to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityaath's. "Agniveers would be given priority in state police services after serving in the Armed Forces," Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said.

With their own ideals of nationalism and desire to serve the country, not only Chouhan, but the whole state unit of the BJP stood in support of the Centre's Agnipath programme. The Congress, on the other hand, slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that the "government will now use a temporary army to protect the country."

Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath slammed the Modi government, accusing it of "short-term" thinking and planning to defend the country. "Will the country now be protected by such a short-term strategy? Now is the time for true nationalism to emerge "On his official Twitter account, Nath tweeted.

Digvijaya Singh said, police officers in Gujarat are also hired on a temporary basis. This remark was made in response to a tweet from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. "Do you know that in Gujarat, police recruitment is also done on a contract basis? It's not going to last forever "Digvijaya wrote.
