'Singing national anthem and unfurling tricolour in mosque haram', Maulana of Agra

Agra: A cleric from Tajnagari Agra has issued a fatwa on the hoisting of the national flag and the national anthem at the mosque. The maulvi made the statement after state minority commission chairman Ashfaq Saifi hoisted the flag at Jama Masjid in Agra on Independence Day in Agra. Mufti Maulana Umair said that the atmosphere of Jama Masjid should not be disturbed as singing the national anthem inside the mosque is haraam.

Mufti is the Maulana of Imam-e-Idgah in Umair city. On the other hand, the State Commission for Minorities has condemned his statement and asked for an apology. On the other hand, Chairman Aslam Qureshi has said that not only mufti should be deposed but he should be prosecuted under the National Security Act (NSA). The tricolor was hoisted on Sunday on the occasion of Independence Day at Madarsa-e-Auliya inside Jama masjid.

Ashfaq Saifi was made the Chief Guest on the occasion. After hoisting the flag, he not only sang Jana Gana Mana but also raised slogans of 'Hindustan Zindabad'. Mufti has since called the chairman and advised him not to "spoil the atmosphere of the mosque" by calling the Jana Gana Mana Haram. He said, "Don't feast on the havoc of Allah like this. Fear Allah, Allah's grip is very strong.''
