Lucknow: An interesting incident took place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh when the police control room received a call from a girl, in which she said that she is alone on a deserted road and pleaded for help. The police control room immediately replied that she should stay there, police assistance will reach in 10 minutes.

When the police team reached the girl, they were surprised that the caller was none other than Assistant Police Commissioner Sukanya Sharma posted in the Police Commissionerate. Actually, Sukanya Sharma made this call for the response test of police assistance. She told the control room that she is alone and wants to go to Agra Cantt Railway Station. The police team demonstrated its efficiency by reaching Sukanya Sharma in the stipulated time, i.e. in 15 minutes. This test report was done for special purposes, as there is a plan to create "Women Safe Zone" to promote women safety in Agra.

Police Commissioner Ravinder Gaud has issued a guideline in this regard, which states that if a woman does not get a vehicle between 10 pm and 6 am, she can call the police control room (112) and ask for help. The police will reach the spot and take the woman to her destination, but the woman concerned will have to pay the fare herself. Under this scheme, 100 auto drivers have been selected, who will be in uniform and their names, addresses and mobile numbers have been registered with the police. If any incident happens with a woman or a young girl, the help of these drivers will be taken. Three "women safe zones" have been established in Agra—Kamla Nagar, Sadar Bazaar, and New Agra—which will be under complete CCTV surveillance.
