New Delhi: Delhi's Rouse Avenue court refuses bail to Christian Michel, accused in the Agusta Westland case. VVIP, both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had registered a case against the alleged middleman and British national Christian Michel in connection with the helicopter purchase scam. Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar dismissed Michel's bail plea in both the cases.

Christian Michel has been in Tihar jail for more than 925 days. He had sought bail from the Rouse Avenue Court on the basis of an order passed by the Working Group on Arbitration Detention (WGAD), an organization working under the UNITED NATIONS Human Rights Commission. Michel said in his petition that the Indian government had illegally arrested him and he was deported from Dubai.

The WGAD said in February that the Government of India had suppressed christian Michel's independence and denied him due legal rights. The group also cited human rights principles as a way to curb civil and political rights. According to international law, India should release him. However, India rejected the report in February itself saying that WGAD is not a judicial institution, so its views are not binding on member countries.
