BENGALURU: AIADMK chief V K Sasikala, who's in prison for amassing inconsistent assets, was on Friday granted a five-day parole to meet her ill husband who in recent times endured dual organ transplant.

Sasikala had on Thursday filed an emergency parole form along with a medical certificate of her ill husband M Natarajan.

Sasikala's husband, 74-year-old unremitting liver disease patient, was stable after a seven-and-a-half hour kidney and liver transplant surgery that started in on late Tuesday night, said a senior doctor at the Institute of Liver Diseases and Transplantation.

An earlier parole application, submitted on October 3 by Sasikala, was rejected on the grounds of insufficient documentation. This time, she has been permitted to leave with conditions; in Chennai, she has to live at the home of her sister-in-law Ilavarasi, who is also in the same jail. She also has been banned from any political activity or statements to the media.

Along with Sasikala, her relatives Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran are also having four-year jail terms.

In jail, Sasikala has stayed behind in the news over allegations that she remunerated Rs. 2 crore for VIP facilities like special meals, a suite of rooms and a flat-screen TV.
