New Delhi: There has been good news for India in the AIBA World Championship. India's star wrestler and Asian champion Amit Panghal has confirmed his place in the World Championship in the semi-finals. With this, he has become the fifth Indian boxer to win a medal for the country at the World Championships. With this victory, he has confirmed the medal for the country. Apart from him, Manish Kaushik (63 Kg) has also clinched the medal for the country. Manish Kaushik defeated Brazil's Wonders de Oliveira in a unanimous decision.

He is India's best-ever performance at the Boxing World Championship. In the 52kg category, Panghal defeated Filipino Carlo 4–1 in the quarterfinal match. Panghal, the second seed in the tournament, showed a great defense during the match and confirmed the first medal for India in the World Championship this year. Prior to Panghal, Vijender Singh, Vikas Krishna, Shiv Thapa and Gaurav Vidhuri have won medals at the World Championships for the country. Panghal had earlier defeated Palam in the Asian Games last year.
