New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Randeep Guleria said that with other corona variants coming up in the near future, the country may need booster doses with corona vaccine for the second generation. In an interview, Dr. Guleria said, "It seems that we may need a booster dose of the vaccine, as immunity decreases with the passage of time. We need to take a booster dose which will cover various emerging variants."

Dr. Guleria further said that the booster dose will be a second-generation vaccine. "We will have a second-generation vaccine that will be better in terms of covering new variants," he said. Trials of booster vaccine shots are already underway. You may need booster doses by the end of this year. But this can only happen once the entire population is vaccinated. The director of the AIIMS said that trials of Covaxin of Bharat Biotech for children are underway and the results are expected to be released by September.

He said that “The vaccine for children should come out now because the trial of Bharat Biotech is in the final phase by September. Children are tested in three phases by separating them into categories according to their age. The first trial is 12-18 years old. Zydus Cadila added data on their COVID-19 vaccine for children has included,'' he added.
