New Delhi: Big news is coming out for the patients undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Gorakhpur. Along with day-care surgery, major surgery will also start at AIIMS from Wednesday. These include departments of gynecology and obstetrics, nose, ear, throat and bone, dental and skin diseases. Till now the facility of surgery of these departments had not started in AIIMS.

It is being told that a total of 16 Operation Theaters (OT) were prepared in AIIMS. Of these, only 2 OTs were running till now. These two OTs used to have day-care surgeries. Day-care surgery included operations with hernias, hydroceles, and small incisions. Now 14 sterilizing operation theaters are completely built, so it has been decided to start surgery of other departments. AIIMS media in-charge Dr. Shashank Shekhar informed that 14 sterilization rooms have been completed as operation theatres. They will be inaugurated by Executive Director Dr. Surekha Kishor on Wednesday morning at 11 am.

In the beginning, only the operation theater of surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, nose-ear-throat disease, bone, dental and skin diseases department will be operated. Along with this, OTs of other departments will be started after the deployment of the doctors concerned. The department of blood bank in BRD Medical College can be created separately. The proposal regarding this has been sent to the government. In this proposal, a demand has been made for the establishment of blood and transfusion medicine in the medical college, whose approval is awaited.
