Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi took BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to task for giving a clean chit to Malegaon Bomb Blast accused, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur over her remarks on former Maharashtra police officer Hemant Karkare. Owaisi was referring to Modi’s interview to a TV channel in which he described her as a “symbol to answer all those” who “branded” Hindu “as Hindu terrorists”.

On Saturday, Owaisi took to Twitter and said: “Your symbol is a threat to our Constitution & to its values. It has weakened our fight against terror, has demeaned our serving officers & their families’ sacrifices. Kaisa Wazeer-e-Azam hai ye! Shame on you, Modi”.

Earlier, in a tweet on Friday, he said: “Hemant Karkare died fighting people not very different from yourself (.) He didn’t die because a terror accused ‘felt bad’ & ‘cursed’ him. The man died fighting to protect our rights to vote & elect a government (.) How DARE BJP insult our martyrs like this?”

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is contesting Lok Sabha Election as BJP’s candidate from Bhopal, claimed that she cursed Karkare with utter destruction and linked her curse to his subsequent death at the hands of terrorists. Also on Friday, Owaisi, who addressed an AIMIM election meeting at Aurangabad in Maharashtra, led the large gathering in observing silence for a minute in Karkare’s memory. After a hush fell on the public meeting, when Mr. Owaisi spoke again he said the “sannata (silence) that enveloped the gathering is like the calm before the storm”.
