A government official said that the process of strategic investment in Air India, BPCL and Container Corporation seems to be 'unlikely' to be completed in FY 2020. This can be impacted by the current financial year economic arithmetic. Apart from this, an official of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) said that work on all these companies is going on but the process is delayed due to 'unexpected' reasons.

With this, in the current financial year, the ministry had set a budgetary target of Rs 1.05 lakh crore from disinvestment through disinvestment. The central government has already crossed the fiscal deficit level in the budget. There is still four months left and the fiscal deficit has reached 115 per cent. The official declined to comment on the impact of such events on the impact on fiscal mathematics. When asked whether the disinvestment of Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) would be completed in this financial year, he said 'probably not'. If the government sells its entire 53 per cent stake in BPCL alone, it will get Rs 60,000 crore.

Similarly, regarding Container Corporation and Air India, they said that their sale cannot be done in the finances ending on 31 March. He said that the government is preparing financial statements and collecting data. He said that such processes take time. When asked about the strategic sales of Shipping Corporation of India, the official said that this sale is at a certain level and is gradually strengthening.
