New Delhi: An Air India flight from Newark to New Delhi was diverted to Stockholm today, February 22, 20233, due to an oil leak in one of the engines. The senior DGCA official said the flight, operated with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, had an oil leak in one of the engines.
Over 300 people were on board Air India flight AI 106. When the cockpit crew informed that the flight was being diverted to a Swedish airport owing to a technical issue, there was panic among the passengers. Every passenger is secure.
Following the oil leak, the engine was shut down, and later the flight landed safely in Stockholm, the official added. A technical issue was reported, and the flight was redirected to Stockholm. At the airport in Stockholm, several fire trucks sped up to the plane.
During the ground inspection, oil was seen coming out from the drain mast of engine two, the official said, adding that the inspection is in progress. The Air India flight reported an engine oil leak, said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Due to an engine oil leak, the Air India flight from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm, according to the DGCA. Boeing B-777 aircraft have been used by Air India for lengthy trips, particularly to the United States.

An onboard medical issue caused an earlier Air India flight (AI 102) from New York to Delhi to be diverted to London. The passenger was taken directly from Heathrow airport to a hospital in London.
An Air India representative said, "Air India ground workers at Heathrow have been ordered to evacuate the individual in question to the hospital."
