Air India Gets DGCA Notice for Flight Delays and Passenger Neglect

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show cause notice to Air India on Friday over significant delays of two international flights and the airline's failure to adequately care for passengers.

The notice highlights delays of two specific international flights: AI 183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30, and AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24. Passengers on these flights experienced discomfort due to inadequate cooling in the cabin. The DGCA has observed multiple incidents where Air India has failed to meet the standards set by the regulator, causing passenger discomfort.

The DGCA emphasized that Air India has repeatedly failed to comply with regulations concerning passenger care. These regulations include provisions for denied boarding, flight cancellations, and delays.

Air India has been asked to explain why enforcement action should not be taken against them for these violations. The regulator expects a thorough response addressing these concerns.

This action comes after Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took note of the frequent delays and the inconvenience caused to passengers, prompting the DGCA to issue the notice.
