BANGALORE: Bharti Airtel on Friday announced successful testing of India's first 5G private network at Bosch Automotive Electronics India (RBAI) facility here, amid the contentious debate over allowing businesses to create captive private 5G networks as India gets ready for 5G spectrum auction.
The Department of Telecom's trial 5G spectrum was used to build the on-premise 5G Captive Private Network (DoT). To boost operational effectiveness and quality at Bosch's production facilities, Airtel claimed to have developed two industrial-grade use cases using the experimental spectrum.
In all instances, automated activities were driven by 5G technology, including mobile broadband and super reliable low latency communications, resulting in faster scale-up and fewer downtimes.
Ajay Chitkara, Director and CEO of Airtel Business, stated that the company "believes that Airtel has the world-class infrastructure, partnerships, and expertise to deliver Captive Private Network Solution in any area of the country and to organisations of any size."
A notice inviting applications (NIA) for the auction of spectrum in the 600, 700, 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2500, 3300 MHz, and 26GHz bands has been published by the Department of Telecom.
