NEW DELHI: Telecom major Bharti Airtel expects to launch 5G services within  thirty days and cover key metros by December, a top official of the company said on Wednesday.

“Within a few weeks, we will begin the launch of our next-generation technology, Airtel 5G. We anticipate to launch 5G services within a month. By December, it is expected that we should have coverage in key metros. After that, we will expand rapidly to cover the whole country. We expect to cover urban India by the end of 2023," he said.

According to the CEO of the company, all urban areas in the nation would be covered by the telco by the end of 2023. Bharti Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal in a communication to the customers said Airtel 5G will deliver significantly higher speeds of 20- 30 times compared to a 4G network. "Within a month, we want to begin our 5G services. We should achieve coverage in the major urban areas by December. After that, we'll quickly grow to include the entire nation.

By the end of 2023, we hope to have urban India completely covered "added Vittal. Customers can use the Airtel Thanks App to learn whether 5G is available in their community. "Speeds on the Airtel 5G network will be significantly faster than those on the 4G network. The speed might be anywhere from 20 to 30 times what you currently receive. This will speed up the process of starting a programme or downloading a large file "explained Vittal.

He said, Airtel SIM is already 5G-ready, and clients must have 5G-ready smartphones in order to use the service. "Go to the settings tab and select connections or mobile network to enable 5G on your phone. In addition to 4G or LTE, you will be given the option of selecting 5G. Choose that mode, and you're ready" said Vittal.
