Assam is battling with severe flooding these days. Many districts in the state have almost been cut off from all over the world. Two telecom companies in the country have tried to provide some relief to the flood victims. Telecom giant Airtel and Vodafone Idea have announced special data and calling benefits for flood-hit subscribers in Assam. Airtel has increased free calling and data for customers in 30 districts of Assam. Airtel is crediting free Talktime as well as 100MB to 5GB of data on subscribers' accounts in flood-hit areas that come with extended validity. Vodafone Idea, on the other hand, along with its other partners, organized flood relief drives. "The Vodafone Idea team is trying to make everyday necessities like water and food easily available to flood victims living in relief camps," Vodafone said, adding that like Airtel, it is providing special voice and data benefits to its subscribers. Vodafone has credited data from 100MB to 5GB on subscribers' accounts and increased the validity of free calling. The company said its experts' on-ground team is working to revive 2G, 3G and 4G network connectivity in Assam.
For your information, the flood has claimed 80 lives so far in Assam. 21.68 lakh people in 1,716 villages of the state's 56 revenue circles are battling this terrible flood. At present, 615 relief camps have been set up in 12 districts of Assam in which 99,000 people have been evacuated. In addition, 49 distribution centres have been set up in 5 districts to provide necessary relief material to the flood victims.
