Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav has dissolved the party's Delhi unit with immediate effect. This was disclosed by Ram Gopal Yadav in a press release on behalf of the Samajwadi Party. Earlier last week, the SP dissolved the Uttar Pradesh unit.

Akhilesh Yadav on Friday visited all the districts of the party except UP state president Naresh Uttam Patel. The Metropolitan Executive was dissolved along with its presidents. During this period, the committees of all the constituencies, including the Speakers of all the constituencies, were dissolved with immediate effect. The decision was taken in view of poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections. Before taking this step, Akhilesh Yadav had received feedback from leaders of various districts of the state on the poll results. A thorough review was conducted during which it was decided to dissolve all the SP committees except the State President.

The SP had contested the elections in association with the BSP.It was reduced to just five seats during the period. After this hard-fought defeat, the party was in the process of moulding itself into a new one. Apart from increasing the number of youth activists in the party, emphasis is being laid on strengthening social engineering. Akhilesh Yadav is constantly brainstorming with top leaders on the issue.
