Uttar Pradesh: In the 2022 Assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), announced that his party will join forces with his estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav's Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL).

Akhilesh Yadav, speaking to reporters here, said that SP would form alliances with smaller parties as well. When asked if he would respect his uncle, Akhilesh Yadav stated that Shivpal Yadav would be treated with the utmost respect in the alliance. The announcement by Akilesh Yadav is expected to put an end to a five-year feud between him and his uncle. While Shivpal Yadav had been persistent in his pursuit of a partnership with SP, Akhilesh Yadav had remained ambiguous on the subject. He had initially only offered Shivpal one seat, in Jaswantnagar.

Shivpal Yadav said on Tuesday that if his supporters were treated with respect, he would consider merging his party with the SP. Fuel and other essential commodity price increases, according to Akhilesh Yadav, have caused problems for all sections of society, including farmers, women, students, youth, and the middle class. "Farmers don't even get fertiliser, and the government doesn't seem to care about the crisis," he said.
