Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav is also set to enter the fray in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. According to sources, Akhilesh Yadav is going to contest the assembly elections. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is currently an MP from the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat. If Akhilesh contests the assembly elections, it is not yet clear from which seat he will be the candidate.

If Akhilesh contests the assembly elections, he will have to give up his membership of the Lok Sabha. Akhilesh Yadav is likely to contest from Azamgarh, Kannauj or from a seat in Purvanchal. On the question of entering the electoral fray, Akhilesh has so far said that he will definitely enter the fray if the party decides. Akhilesh Yadav has been describing himself as an alternative to the present Yogi government. Even in several election rallies, Akhilesh has claimed that the SP may win more than 400 seats in up elections 2022.

The SP has joined several smaller parties in UP to overtake the BJP. These include Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Janavadi Party (Socialist), Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), Progressive Samajwadi Party (Lohia), Mahan Dal, TMC. On the other hand, the alliance with Chandrashekhar Azad's party could not be firmed up.
