Film industry players have often been questioned over the citizenship of Akshay Kumar. A few years ago, it was revealed that he had Canadian citizenship. People have since taken him on their target and started trolling. However, Akshay has said that he has applied for an Indian passport. He said this during an event in Delhi. He also said that he would get an Indian passport soon.

At the beginning of this year, there was a controversy about Akshay's citizenship when he did not vote in the Lok Sabha elections. He was trolled for not voting. He had to come forward to give his clarification and then he told that he has a passport of Canada and not of India, so he could not vote.

During this program, Akshay told under which circumstances he had to take a Canadian passport. He said, 'There was a time when 14 of my films had flopped and then I started feeling that I have to do something else for livelihood. One of my close friends lives in Canada. He asked me to come to Canada, also said that together we will do something here. He is also an Indian and lives there. After this, I started my preparation. and took a Canadian passport and other things because I felt my career was over. I will no longer get work here (Bollywood). But the miracle happened and my 15th film came out. I have never looked back since then, I moved forward. But I never thought of getting my passport replaced. '

But when the controversy over Akshay's citizenship and passport started, he decided to apply for an Indian passport. He said, 'Now I have applied for Indian passport because I am sad to see that people have fallen behind this. To tell that I am an Indian, I have to show my passport now. I did not want to give any more opportunity to anyone and hence have applied for a passport.

After India, Akshay's film 'Gold' will release in China

Akshay further said, 'My wife and my son are Indians. Everyone in my family is Indian. I pay all my taxes here. My life is here but if some people still want to say something then it is fine. '

He also spoke about the interview for PM Narendra Modi in April this year. While some people praised him for this interview, there were others who criticized him a lot. But Akshay does not mind these things. He said, 'I got a golden opportunity to do that interview and I think nobody wants to miss that opportunity. I was among the lucky people who got the chance to interview the Prime Minister. I went without any preparation. I settled down and asked him questions like a common man. Whatever came in my mind at that time, I asked.'

Kapil Sharma gave Akshay a 'wake up challenge'

Akshay further said, 'Did he give me instructions on how to ask the PM about mangoes? Do you think I will be given instructions about that? Will be explained what to ask? Rather, PM himself was also surprised when I asked about eating mangoes. I asked PM Modi only simple questions. I did not ask anything related to politics because many journalists have done this. The PM answered all the questions with a lot of love, which was really good.'

Talking about Akshay's work front, he will soon be seen in 'Good Newwz'. The film will be released on Christmas this year. Apart from him, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani will also be seen in the film.
