BAREILLY (Uttar Pradesh): The violent incident in Udaipur, when a tailor was killed for endorsing BJP leader Nupur Sharma's remark against the Prophet, has now been denounced by the Ala Hazrat Dargah in Bareilly, joining other Muslim organizations in doing so.

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi claimed in a statement on Wednesday that the occurrence on Tuesday had caused the entire community to hang its head in shame. He said that the Prophet had never spoken a word against his detractors or even his foes.

"He always urged his supporters not to consider exacting retribution on those who disagreed with him. Islam absolutely does not advocate beheading people. Islam places a greater emphasis on peace and love than it does on violence " he added.

The preacher claimed that it was abundantly evident that the Udaipur incident suspects did not adhere to the teachings of Islam. For seeking to sabotage the peace and harmony in the nation and resorting to violence, he added, "I feel an inquiry should be held against them and heavy punishment should be meted out to them within the law."

He also urged Muslims to make deliberate efforts to decrease the gravity of the incident by their behaviour and to quickly alert the appropriate authorities if someone attempts to use Islam to sow discord.
