Guwahati: When the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was passed in Parliament in December 2019, the spark of protest first arose from Assam. The youth of Assam had come on the road against CAA, leading All Assam Student Union (AASU). The faces who raise the flag of this CAA protest are going to try their luck in Assam assembly elections. The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), a political party formed with the support of the All Assam Students Union, is going to beat the electoral fray in alliance with Akhil Gogoi's party Raiser Dal, the face of CAA movement.

Announcing on Thursday, President of Assam Ethnic Council Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that his party has tied up with the Raiser Party led by Akhil Gogoi for the upcoming assembly elections. After a conversation with Akhil Gogoi at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that two new regional parties have formed an alliance and a formal announcement in this regard will be made soon.

Akhil Gogoi is in jail since December 2019 due to CAA movement. The NIA arrested him for his involvement in anti-treason activities, but due to illness, Akhil Gogoi is admitted for treatment at Guwahati Medical College. It is here that Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Thursday announced to contest elections after meeting him.
