Some important rules are going to change in the telecom sector from October 1. The purpose of these changes is to make it easier for customers to know which mobile service—2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G—is available in their area. Under the new rules, all telecom companies will have to compulsorily display this information on their website. This will enable customers to choose the right service according to their needs.

Information on the quality of services

Sometimes the same company can provide 5G service in a big city, while in smaller cities the same company provides only 2G service. Now telecom companies will also have to share information about many standards related to the quality of their service on their website. Earlier, telecom companies did not provide such information publicly.

New rules to come into effect from October 1

From October 1, only messages with secure URLs and OTP links will be allowed for communication. Along with this, TRAI has ordered to move all telemarketing calls starting with 140 series to a digital ledger platform by September 30, so that they can be monitored easily.

Benefits for customers

These new rules will prove to be important for the customers. This will help them know which service is available in their area and which company has better service quality. This will not only provide correct information to the customers but will also give telecom companies a chance to improve their network and become more responsive towards the customers.

Improvements to online services

TRAI has also asked all telecom companies to improve their online services. Under this directive, Mobile Telephone Service Rules 2009, Wireless Data Quality Rules 2012, and Broadband Service Rules 2006 have been brought together. These new rules will come into effect from October 1.
