Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has asked the State Government how many primary and upper primary schools are there in the state where not a single student is studying. The court also sought information from the government on the poor condition of council schools and quality of education. A two-judge bench hearing the case passed the order on Nandlal's PIL.

The petition also cited the deteriorating condition of several schools including upper primary and primary schools at Daraganj in Prayagraj. Referring to an inquiry report by the opposition block education officer in the case, the court has been told that not a single student is currently studying in the erstwhile secondary school due to the negligence of teachers and the education department. Similarly, the standard of education in other schools has become very useless. Many teachers do not even know Class IV level English. Hindi is also not good. The formulas of science are not known.

It was said that due to the plight of schools, parents are not sending their children to council schools, which has reduced the student figure to zero. Expressing displeasure over this, the court has sought a record of the data of children studying in schools across the state from the state.
