Lucknow: Observing that it is unnatural in Indian culture for a man to rape his daughter-in-law, the Allahabad High Court has granted anticipatory bail to an accused in the Saharanpur district. The court said that considering the nature of the allegations, the life of the accused so far, the gravity of the offence and considering that it is unnatural in Indian culture for a man to rape a daughter-in-law with other people.

A bench of Justice Ajit Singh granted anticipatory bail to the man, who is accused of raping the daughter-in-law with another man. The court said, "Without giving any consideration to the merits of the case, considering that false allegations were made to damage the reputation of the accused in the society, and considering the judgments of the Supreme Court, anticipatory bail is being granted.'' The High Court in its order dated May 18 added, "In case of arrest of the applicant, he may be granted anticipatory bail on fulfilment of the conditions".

The woman had filed a case under IPC section 376 at a police station in Saharanpur alleging that her father-in-law came to her brother's house with another person. He asked her where is the brother. When she told him that he had gone out, the father-in-law started abusing her. On resisting, the father-in-law pushed her onto the bed and tried to rape her. The person accompanying him in this act also supported him.
