NEW DELHI: New Delhi: Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday that his party is devoted to the welfare and general development of Nagaland ahead of the Nagaland Assembly elections.

The people of Nagaland deserve a tranquil, prosperous, and progressive government, he said.He tweeted, "Let's make change together."

Kharge also pledged to reinstate the Old Pension Scheme in Nagaland if the party wins power, similar to what was done in Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

In addition to promoting safety and law and order, Kharge claimed that if his party wins the upcoming election on February 27, it will create a minority board, grant women 33% of the seats currently held by men in local urban authorities, and guarantee full payment of MRNEGA dues.
The Nagaland Assembly polls  witniess  a total of 183 candidates in fray for 60 seats, Chief Electoral Officer V Shashank Shekhar said last week.

Twenty candidates from the BJP, one from the CPI, 23 from the Congress, twelve each from the NCP and NPP, forty from the NDPP, twenty two from the NPF, one from the RPP, seven from the JD(U), fifteen from the LJP (Ram Vilas), nine from the RPI (Athawale), and nineteen Independents are running. 13,17,632 people are eligible to vote in the state, 6,61,489 of them are men and 6,56,143 of whom are women.

There are 2,351 voting places, with Merapani polling place number 71 in the Bhandari Assembly seat having the fewest voters (37), and Usutomi polling place number 12 in the Atoizu constituency having the most (1348).
The Ghaspani-I constituency has the most voters (74,395), while the Mokokchung Town Assembly constituency has the fewest (8,302).

On February 27, Nagaland will have a single-phase election for the assembly. Vote counting will take place on March 2.
