Alok Verma, the Former Delhi police commissioner today took charge as the chief of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).  

He is appointed by the three member committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi also including Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar and Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

From 2 December, the post of the CBI Chief was empty after the retirement of Anil Sinha.

Alok Verma remained the Delhi Police chief for the past 11 months and is also a 1979 batch IPS officer. Earlier, he was also the Director General of Tihar Prisons and the Police chief of Mizoram.
