Alwar Gangrape: Mayawati slams Congress for suppressing the case

On Saturday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on accused the Rajasthan Congress government of trying to suppress Alwar gangrape case in wake of Lok Sabha polls 2019 and urged the Supreme Court to take action against the state government. The BSP supremo, while addressing a press conference on the issue said that the matter was not just related to the people of scheduled castes but all women and demanded death penalty for the accused.

"The guilty in Alwar gang-rape case should be hanged till death. Supreme Court should take action against the Congress government, police and the administration in the state. This matter is not just related to Dalits but all women," she said.

In a horrendous incident, a woman in Rajasthan's Alwar district was allegedly gang-raped by more than five people in front of her husband. While the accused took their turn to outrage the modesty of the woman, one of them shot the incident on his mobile phone and shared the video on social media.

According to the sources, the incident occurred on April 26 but came to light on Tuesday as the police had allegedly asked the victims that they were busy in the Lok Sabha polls and that they should wait till the elections in the state are over.

After the incident came to light, the police officials came in action and arrested all the five accused involved in the crime. The Congress-led state government also took action against the police officials who had allegedly refused to lodge an FIR and suspended Alwar SP Rajiv Pachar and Thanagaji police station SHO.
