Amanda Anisimova of the United States bounced back after losing the opening set to beat Belarusian top seed Aryna Sabalenka 3-6 6-4 6-3 to make it to the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open tennis tournament. In other upsets, Both Katarina Alexandranova of Russia and Koko Vandeweghe of the United States have made it to the last 8 with victories over their preferred rivals on Thursday.

Aleksandrova won 6-3 6-1 over third seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, while Vandeweghe won 6-4 3-6 6-4 over compatriot and sixth seed Jessica Pegula. Second seed Paula Badosa of Spain has also won 3-6 7-6 (8) 6-1 after losing the first set against Claire Liu of the United States.  

Switzerland's 10th seed and previous Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic defeated ninth seed Madison Keys of the United States 6-4 6-4. Fourth seed Ons Jabeur has made it to the quarter-finals by winning two matches on Thursday as her match against Emma Navarro was stalled due to bad weather on Wednesday, which she defeated Romania's Irina Camelia Begu 6-3 6-2 after defeating her 6-3 5-2.
