New Delhi: Amar Jawan Jyoti, which has been burning at India Gate in the country's capital Delhi for the past 50 years, was merged with a burning flame at the National War Memorial on Friday. The event was presided over by Air Marshal Balbhadra Radhakrishna. Amar Jawan Jyoti was established in memory of Indian soldiers who were martyred in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. India won this war. It was then that Bangladesh was formed. On the other hand, now that the flame is merged, the jawans of India will be remembered here.

It was inaugurated by the then PM Indira Gandhi on January 26, 1972. The note here is that the National War Memorial was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on February 25, 2019. The names of 25,942 seals at this place are written in golden letters. After the inauguration, all military formal ceremonies at India Gate will be shifted there.

The sources said the decision was taken after it was found that the maintenance of flames at both places was becoming difficult. Army sources said it was also argued that since the National War Memorial for the martyrs of India has already been built, why should a separate flame be lit at India Gate. According to sources, the National War Memorial also has the names of martyrs written at India Gate. The National War Memorial also names all Indian defence personnel who have lost their lives in all operations.
