Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday night ordered immediate ban on the telecast of the controversial TV serial 'Ram-Siya Ke Luv-Kush', which has sparked protests among the Valmiki community.

Incidents of violence in several parts of the state has been reported. In these incidents, a young man has also been shot in Jalandhar. After the bandh and incidents of violence, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered to immediately stop broadcasting the serial. According to the media report, the Valmiki Action Committee, which is calling for a day-long bandh in the state, claims that objectionable comments have been made against God in the serial 'Ram Siya Ke Love-Kush' aired on Colors TV. Gone and historical facts have been tampered with. This has hurt his religious sentiments.

The organization across the country has demanded that the telecast of the serial be banned and its directors and actors should be arrested under the Indian Penal Code section for deliberately defying religious sentiments. Officials said that commercial establishments in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Phagwara and Ferozepur remained closed. In some of these places, they were closed down. Ludhiana was partially affected by the bandh. However, drug stores, clinics and ambulance services were exempted from the shutdown. A young man has been shot in Jalandhar, which was later operated. Officials said that violent incidents were reported from many places including the conflict in Fazilka.
