JAMMU:  More than 11,000 pilgrims have peprformed  this year's Amarnath Yatra, and on Saturday, a new group of 6,113 worshipers began their journey from Jammu's Bhagwati Nagar base camp to the valley.

Since the pilgrimage began on Thursday, 23,214 more people have gone toward the valley, according to officials here. "Over 11,000 yatris had darshan inside the sacred cave sanctuary thus far," they said.
The group on Saturday moved in two protected convoys to the base camps in Baltal and Pahalgam.

1,940 of these are headed to Baltal, and 4,173 are going to Pahalgam, said the officials.

After a three-year break, pilgrims are returning to the subterranean sanctuary this year. The yatra was shortened in 2019 before Article 370 was repealed, and it was postponed in 2020 and 2021 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The journey will come to an end on August 11 during the festival of Raksha Bandhan and Shravan Purnima.
