SRINAGAR:  A new group of 7,276 pilgrims left Jammu for the Yatra on Monday, bringing the total number of Yatris who have visited the Amarnath cave shrine to over 50,000.

According to official authorities, till Sunday evening, around 50,000 Yatris performed Darshan within the cave sanctuary. "Inside the cave sanctuary yesterday, 17,000 pilgrims received Darshan. Over 50,000 people have performed the Yatra thus far.

"Today, another group of 7,276 Yatris departed from Jammu's Bhagwati Nagar base camp towards the Valley. 2895 pilgrims are going to the Baltal base camp, and 4,381 are going to the Pahalgam base camp, source said.

The Yatris can return to the base camp the same day after the Darshan thanks to the 14-km journey from Baltal to the cave shrine.  From the Pahalgam base camp, the pilgrims journey 48 kilometres in four days to reach the cave shrine.

The pilgrims can also use helicopter services on either of the Yatra routes.

Beginning on June 30, Amarnath Yatra 2022 will end on August 11.
