New Delhi: The functioning of companies has come to a standstill due to the slowdown in the country. This has resulted in large scale layoffs. But two e-commerce giant Amazon and Flipkart have given temporary jobs to 1.4 lakh people in view of the festive sale. Companies have given these jobs to various positions associated with the entire supply chain, including last-mile connectivity and customer support. The festive season sale of both Flipkart and Amazon starts later this month.
Amazon India issued a statement stating that it has given jobs to 90,000 temporary positions at its flower fulfilment center, sortation center, delivery station, partner flower filling network and customer services sites. Walmart-owned Flipkart has given direct jobs to 50,000 people in its supply chain, logistics and customer support. The company issued a statement saying that it expects its Big Billion Days Cell to increase its direct jobs through cellar networks by 30 percent this year.
Like offline retail stores, e-commerce companies have seen significant growth in sales during Dussehra and Diwali. These companies organize a festive sale every year from September to November. Preparation of these cells starts long before. Amazon has stated that it has created these seasonal posts in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Pune. These companies wait on it year after year to capitalize on this opportunity.
