NEW DELHI: Around 400 to 500 employees from its Cloud division Amazon Web Services (AWS) as well as People Experience and Technology Solutions or Human Resource and support verticals.

As per reports, the downsizing in the country is part of the 9,000 layoffs announcement in March by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy

In March, Amazon revealed plans to fire 9,000 workers from its Amazon Web Services, Twitch, advertising, and HR departments.

As per o the memo by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy shared with employees in March, the e-commerce giant first cut 18,000 jobs in January, and as "we completed the second phase of our planning this month, it led us to these additional 9,000 role reductions". He had stated, "I'm writing to share that we aim to remove approximately 9,000 additional employees in the coming weeks -- primarily in AWS, PXT, Advertising, and Twitch. "This was a painful choice, but we believe it is best for the company in the long run.

Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky had also announced the layoffs at AWS would begin from North American, and then reach globally. "Due to customer demand for the cloud and the distinctive value that AWS provides, both the size of our business and the size of our workforce have increased dramatically in recent years. We acted as swiftly as we could to build what clients demanded, which is why this expansion has happened so quickly, Selipsky said.

In light of this quick expansion as well as the overall business and macroeconomic environment, "it is critical that we focus on identifying and putting our resources behind our top priorities -- the things that matter most to customers and that will move the needle in our business," Selipsky had stated in another memo.

The e-commerce behemoth "made the very difficult decision" to cut approximately 27,000 corporate roles, according to Jassy, who also stated during the quarterly results call last month that like other leadership teams, the company will continue to assess what "we're seeing in our business and proceed adaptively." While the business has made a number of cost-cutting moves,  "we've been able to do so while still pursuing the key strategic long-term investments"
