Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019 India were battling a selection puzzle at the number 4 slot before Ambati Rayudu's arrival brought a sense of calm in the batting line-up. After his dazzling display with the bat for champions Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League last year, Rayudu returned to the national team and received the backing of captain Virat Kohli to make the number 4 spot his own.

After his brilliant 90-run knock in India's win against New Zealand in 5th ODI at Wellington, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is all but convinced of Rayudu's spot in India's World Cup squad. The experienced right-hander has over the past few months established his credentials in the middle-order and is the first-choice batsman at number 4 for Men in Blue.

However, Rayudu scored 90 runs off 113 balls to bail out India after a top-order collapse in the 5th ODI against New Zealand. He shared a 98-run stand with Vijay Shankar for the 5th wicket before adding another 74 runs for the 6th wicket with Kedar Jadhav. His gritty innings helped India post a challenging total of 252 runs on the board as the Men in Blue won the game by 35 runs to clinch the series 4-1.

Here, Rayudu is not in India's T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand and will be next seen in action in the home series against Australia that will be the last series for India ahead of World Cup 2019.
