New Delhi: Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is an annual festival observed on 14 April to commemorate the memory of B. R. Ambedkar, an Indian polymath and civil rights activist. 

On his 130th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Vice-President of India Shri M Venkaiah Naidu paid floral tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution -- Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

"Remembering the great social reformer, outstanding intellectual and the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr #BRAmbedkar on his birth anniversary today. #Babasaheb was a true humanist who all through his life strove to dismantle caste barriers and social inequalities," one of Naidu's three tweets posted this morning read.

The Vice-President's second tweet said, "Babasaheb's stellar contribution in drafting the constitution and bridging the gaps of inequality will always be remembered."

Ambedkar spent his fighting against inequalities, bringing social reforms, and propagating progressive ideologies. He also had an instrumental contribution in forming the Indian Constitution.  He has bestowed the highest civilian award of the country, Bharat Ratna, in 1990. 

On March 31, 2021, the Government of India decided to declare April 14 as a public holiday on account of Ambedkar Jayanti.
