Florida: A special plan has been prepared for the elimination of diseases like dengue, zika in America. According to the plan, 75 million genetically modified mosquitoes will be released in Florida, USA. The purpose of leaving these mosquitoes prepared in the laboratory is to reduce the number of mosquitoes that spread diseases. They are named OX5034. They will be released on an island in Florida in the year 2021.

The plan will be launched as the first pilot project in Florida next year. The British company will run the Oxitec pilot project. The company says that it has released 1 million genetically modified mosquitoes in the last few years. Till now, there has been no report of any kind of threat to both humans and the environment. A genetically modified mosquito is a male mosquito, it is specially prepared in the lab.

These mosquitoes will be released at places where the number of female mosquitoes that spread disease like dengue and zika is high. Because only female mosquitoes spread the disease like dengue and zika. This genetically modified mosquito will breed with female mosquitoes. During the breeding process, the protein present in the male mosquito will reach the female mosquito. For this reason newly born female mosquitoes will die before the time. Gradually, the number of female mosquitoes will decrease. When the number of mosquitoes decreases, then cases of virus spreading in humans will also be lost.
