WASHINGTON: In talks with North Korea on Monday, the US top representative called Pyongyang's demands hostile and unnecessary. The US said that its deadline has ended, but the door is open for fresh talks. The US statement comes at a time when Pyongyang has said that if Washington fails to accept our proposal, it will adopt a so-called unspecified new approach.

In February 2019, talks between US President Donald Trump and top North Korean leader Kim Jong Un failed in Vietnam's capital Hanoi. The agreement included advancing bilateral relations, establishing long-term and stable peace on the Korean peninsula, and making the peninsula completely free of nuclear weapons.
