US to give Highest Civilian Honour to Mahatma Gandhi, proposes in Parliament

Washington: The US is all set to give its highest honour to Mahatma Gandhi. In the same episode, a US lawmaker from New York on Friday tabled a second motion in the US House of Representatives to posthumously honour Mahatma Gandhi's gold medal for promoting peace and non-violence.

State that the Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian award in the United States (USA). Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, after submitting a resolution, said, "Mahatma Gandhi's historic Satyagraha, the movement of non-violent resistance inspired the country and the world. His example encourages us to dedicate ourselves to the service of others.'' Maloney added, "His legacy inspired civil rights movements all over the world for racial equality, from martin Luther king jr's movement to Nelson Mandela's fight against apartheid. As a public servant, I am inspired every day by his courage and example. Let us all follow Gandhi's path and make the changes you want to see in the world.''

US MP Carolyn B. Maloney claimed that she is working for the 2019 Congressional Gold Medal to be awarded to Mahatma Gandhi. He says Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King have won congressional gold medals earlier. If they follow the path shown by Bapu and get this medal, then Gandhi who was impressed by Mandela and Martin Luther did such a great job must get this honour.
