Washington: US President Donald Trump has awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi a Legion of Merit, one of the top honours in the US for his leadership in enhancing the strategic partnership between India and the US. US National Security Advisor Robert C. B. Bryan has given information in this regard. Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who was stationed in the US, accepted the honour on behalf of PM Modi.
National Security Council quoted NSA Robert C. O'Brien as tweeting that 'President Donald Trump has honoured the Indian PM Narendra Modi with the Legion of Merit for his leadership in enhancing the US-India strategic partnership.' Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu accepted this medal on behalf of PM Modi. On 20 July 1942, the Legion of Merit Medal was established by the Congress. It is offered to members of the American Army and foreign military members and political figures who have performed exceptionally well. It is one of the highest military medals that can be awarded to foreign officials.
The Jan of Merit Medal is a five-ray white cross with red colour on its sides. It has a green garland-like shape on the edges with a blue centre with 13 white stars.
