Washington: With the Taliban capturing Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, the border of areas occupied by the terror group has reached the border of China's Xinjiang province. US President Joe Biden has defended his decision to withdraw his army from Afghanistan, saying the US operation there will end on August 31.

It may be recalled that defending the speed at which U.S. forces are being recalled from Afghanistan, Biden said it was saving lives. Biden's statement comes at a time when the Taliban, the terror group, is constantly taking over new areas of Afghanistan. After the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, U.S. forces fought in Afghanistan for nearly 20 years. But earlier this year, Joe Biden set a deadline of September 11, 2021 for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

Before Biden, the Trump administration also agreed to withdraw U.S. troops by May 2021 in talks with the Taliban. After Trump, when Biden came to power this January, he extended the date.
